FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I SCHEDULE FOR A READING?

If this is your first time getting a reading from me, I recommend a 45 minute session. Otherwise pick the time length that best fits what you need. For example, if you have a focused question, I recommend 30 minutes. If you want a general reading that includes a deep dive into multiple issues, I recommend 60 minutes.

WHAT ARE YOUR FEES?

My readings rate is $125 an hour. I offer shorter readings for less and can work with you on price, if you need a break.

WHAT IS THE MINIMUM AGE TO GET A READING?

I do not offer readings to children. Their minds are growing, their interests change from day-to-day, and they are very impressionable. The kind of information shared in a reading has the possibility of anchoring them and limiting their potential. To me the ideal age is when the individual possesses enough healthy skepticism to "take what feels right from the reading and leave the rest". For this reason, I set my minimum age at 16.

DO I HAVE TO DRIVE TO OLYMPIA TO GET A READING?

No. The interesting thing about psychic and energy work is you do not need to be in the same physical space as the practitioner. Normally I would offer an in-person reading option, but the situation with COVID-19 is serious and I think it's best to minimize contact. So all readings right now are via phone or video call - I have a Zoom account (https://zoom.us/). I am also happy to use Skype or FaceTime.

ARE YOU AVAILABLE FOR PARTIES?

Not at this time.

WHY TAROT? HOW ARE THE CARDS USEFUL?

I fell in love with Tarot when I was a child. My mom had the Aquarian Deck and the imagery fascinated me. I quickly went beyond the simplistic "fortune teller" definitions and found myself more intrigued by the deeper card symbolism, which pulls from esoteric spiritual traditions and modern psychology (specifically Jung). However it was only when I started reading cards for others that I realized how effective tarot is as a mechanism for providing useful insights into one's life.

The 78 cards in a deck offer 156 interpretations (if you consider the reverse orientation, which I do). This means even the simplest 3 card layout yields 3.7 million permutations and 620,620 combinations. The skeptic's view is that everything is random and that the only valid connection between two events is "cause and effect". The spiritualist extreme is the belief that everything is connected, which is a stretch at times.

The way I see it, the art of a Tarot reader is to communicate the card meanings and help the client determine what is random and what is connected. Which cards (or combinations of cards) are relevant and provide useful guidance and which don't. My goal is to help my clients see patterns in their experiences and possible ways to adjust their actions or expectations to get closer to their aspirations.

Where I am constantly surprised is how clients stuck in a circumstance draw the same cards. One can write that off as coincidence, but it is somewhat uncanny. For example, many readings prior to the pandemic contained the 4 of Swords (retreat).

Over time I've learned to keep an open mind and see if there is a message in those cards that can help. Worst case, the experience is entertaining. Best case, the reading gives them a new insight or validates their own gut feeling about what to do next.

WHAT TYPE OF TAROT DO YOU USE?

I have a few preferred decks. For a traditional tarot reading I use the Universal Waite Tarot deck. For a non-traditional reading, I use the Earthbound Oracle deck.

HOW DOES YOUR "MEDICAL INTUITION" WORK?

Medical intuition is the ability to see health problems in the aura (energetic body). My gift in this way is not incredibly strong, however I do seem to pick up on health issues from time to time. I want to stress that I'm not a doctor, nor do I pretend to be. I also don't think it's a good idea to rely on anyone's intuition for medical diagnoses. If I see something, I'll let you know and recommend you follow up with a certified medical professional.

DO YOU READ PALMS OR ASTROLOGY?

No. These are specific areas of study. I stay informed about planetary actions and their potential effects, but I am not a personal astrologer. I know very little about palm reading.

DO YOU COMMUNICATE WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE PASSED AWAY (DIED)?

Rarely. I've had it happen, but it's not typical.

ARE YOU AN ANIMAL PSYCHIC?

No.

DO YOU COMMUNICATE WITH SPIRIT GUIDES?

Not typically. I am more of an aura reader, which is how I see certain health conditions. I also see energy lines for some situations that show potential outcomes. These are probabilities that may come to pass (assuming circumstances don't change).

AREN'T ALL PSYCHICS AND TAROT READERS CON ARTISTS?

Some are. However, in my experience, most readers are kind people with the best of intentions. Unfortunately many are not that great at giving a tarot reading, or clearly explaining what they see (if they are psychic), or the advice they give is impractical.

Here's how to spot the con artist or reader that isn't serving you well:

  • A reader (palm, psychic, tarot, etc) tells you that you have bad luck or a curse was put on you and for an additional fee they can help. They may say they will do a ritual for you or something else. This is a con. Don't pay them and leave immediately.

  • A reader recommends that you meet with them weekly or monthly to guide you or help you work out your issues. This is a con. Readers are not therapists (unless they have a degree in psychology and a license to practice). Any reader that is trying to get you to establish a dependent relationship with them is either doing it for financial reasons or they are trying to be your guru. Neither is healthy for you.

  • A reader tells you that to be happy you need to distance yourself from parents, family, and/or friends. This is not a con, but there is a high likelihood that this person has problems of their own that are unhealed. They may themselves not know how to repair damaged relationships. Of course not all situations are healthy, but it's better to find a therapist to help you work through the types of decisions that can have lasting consequences.

A good reader knows the tarot card meanings. Their intuition should  validate what you already know to be true, giving you more confidence in your own ability to make decisions. The best readers help you access your own intuition, so you don't need them anymore.
